Wuppertal Gala

Finally, natapos din ang inaantay naming mag-asawa na Gala of FDV Filipino Association in Wuppertal. That was the first big Filipino event we attended here in this area. Pero bago kami dumating sa venue, it took us almost two hours to find the place. Supposively, it’s only 1 hour to drive from our place. Paano kasi we have to change from one Autobahn to another.

Haay naku, gusot ang mukha ko as we arrived there. They were already starting with the buffet as we arrived. Mabuti na lang Joan and her husband has waited for us so we can dine together. Saka ko pa napansin ang beauty nang concert hall as we sitted at our reserved table. The wonderful baroque architecture fascinates me ever since.

The historical concert hall (Stadthalle) is one fine masterpiece of turn-of-the-century architecture of Wuppertal, inaugurated in 1900 by the German emperor William II and his wife.

Anyway, I was very surprised as I have seen a familiar face standing infront of the stage as the Tombola was being drawn. It was Kuya Carlos indeed. Magkasama kami dati lagi sa Philippine Embassy in Bonn. Meron kasi dating quarterly meeting ng mga presidente nang Filipino Associations. Ate Myrna, his wife was also there. We chatted a bit about the past, at kami na yata ang pinaka maingay doon. Tumitingin sa amin yong mga tao everytime na kami ay naghalakhakan. Napaka exciting nga naman kapag matagal nang hindi nagkikita. We really enjoyed the evening. Para na rin akong nasa Pilipinas dahil sa kanilang several shows na folk dances, plus a Filipino live band and top of it all…pagkaing Pilipino. Yummy!

We have waited ’til they were done drawing the tombola before we left at 2:00 a.m. Bumili kasi ang 30 pieces (€1.00 each) ang asawa ko. Of course we were hoping na mapanalunan namin ang first prize na round trip ticket to Phils. Ngeeek! Wala kaming napanalunan kahit man lang sana consolation prize, malas talaga.
